Hey Democrats. Particularly President Obama. Listen up and pay attention.
In California, your Governor ‘Moonbeam’ Jerry Brown has just signed a tax hike that will require Advertising Affiliates in California to pay taxes on the sales, even though the actual seller is not located in California.
The Liberal idiots expect an additional $200 Million in much needed revenue.
Here’s a news flash: It ain’t gonna collect a dime and will drive the Affiliate Advertising out of California.
If you want less of something, tax it. And this is no exception.
Amazon has already terminated it’s affiliate program in California and others will do the same.
According to a story in the Orange County Register:
Amazon has already emailed its termination of its affiliate advertising program with 25,000 websites. The letter says, in part:
(The bill) specifically imposes the collection of taxes from consumers on sales by online retailers – including but not limited to those referred by California-based marketing affiliates like you – even if those retailers have no physical presence in the state.
We oppose this bill because it is unconstitutional and counterproductive. It is supported by big-box retailers, most of which are based outside California, that seek to harm the affiliate advertising programs of their competitors. Similar legislation in other states has led to job and income losses, and little, if any, new tax revenue. We deeply regret that we must take this action.
The new law won’t affect customers, Amazon said, but added that the immediate termination of the affiliate program also applies to endless.com, myhabit.com and smallparts.com.
Even worse, the income derived by Californians from affiliate advertising is now gone. So not only will this law not collect the expected additional revenue, it will actually reduce taxable income they are currently collecting.
Nice going Moonbeam.
And the younger Moonbeam in the White House wants to tax rich people and their Corporate Jets he just subsidized with stimulus money.
Hint: They have jets. They will leave the country. Or more precisely, their money will leave the country and their lawyers will make sure you can never get your greedy hands on it. You can take that to the bank.
And if these wealthy people have so much extra money, a higher tax rate will simply see them pull back on anything that earns taxable income. Like expanding jobs and investing in businesses.
Clueless Moonbeams abound.
